Decorator vs. Designer

Decorators focus mainly on applied interiors, which refers to surface finishes, flooring, window coverings, and placement of furniture + accessories.

Qualified designers will have at least a bachelor degree in Interior Design, and/or educational background that will support schematic design in both the applied and built aspects of interiors.

For example, my degree is a Bachelor of Interior Architecture, from the School of Architecture and Allied Arts at the University of Oregon. This intensive program includes knowledge of structural systems, larger scale architectural + wholistic planning, and furniture design + build.
